3 year old girl was declared dead on site- Ekhuruleni EMS

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The mother of the three-year-old girl who died on Sunday has opened a case of culpable homicide against an Ekurhuleni Emergency Services paramedic.

In a statement read out at the Alberton Police Station on Wednesday, Nontombi Gwame alleges that her child died after the female paramedic failed to provide the necessary medical attention to her sickly daughter.

Gwame’s niece read the statement as she was too emotional to read it herself.

“I now wish the police to investigate the case of culpable homicide against the female paramedic for causing the death of my child and a case of assault as she assaulted me with an oxygen cylinder. It was evident to me and to others that she had absolutely no interest in providing any form of medical assistance to my child. I believe that it was through her negligence that my child died.”

On Saturday Gwame went to at least two clinics where she says she received little help, she also went to a private doctor who put the child on a drip.

On Sunday morning she went to popular Prophet Mbhoro Motseoneng’s Incredible Happenings Ministries Church in Katlehong and during prayer with Motsoeneng paramedics were also called.

One of the congregants says, “I asked the people to call an ambulance. Since they were delaying then the other members of the church were encouraged to call. The way they were treated by those people at the call centre, some were saying they are fed up with these calls. This is not the only child, this is not the only church where they need medical attention. I asked them to attend the child and I gave them the medical condition that the mother told me about, the lady said “I don’t want to talk to you, I want to talk to the mother of the child.”

The child died later after the Ekurhuleni Emergency Services allegedly also failed to attend to her.

Motsoeneng has condemned the paramedics, saying they are to blame for the child’s death.

“I said “can you please look into the child that is dying, this child will die!” Then the child gasped, the nose and the mouth vomited. She was crying with a tiny voice in the ambulance, calling the name of her father. It was very painful, it’s sad that, that baby was killed in my presence.”

However, Ekurhuleni Emergency Services alleges that the child was declared dead on the scene and not in the ambulance as Motsoeneng claims.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Spokesperson, William Ntladi:

“The advanced life support system arrived and started checking on the patient. Unfortunately, the patient was declared deceased on site.”

The paramedic has since opened a case against Motsoeneng for assault after she allegedly got into an altercation with him.

Police have also confirmed that he could be arrested after the investigation has been concluded.

Captain Lesetja Mathobela says there is evidence against the prophet.

“Yes the case was opened against Pastor Mboro. The statement of the witness was obtained today in the morning and the investigation is still on and after it is finalised.
