The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says the 23 candidates running for President on 30 July are an indication that the new regime has taken out the fear associated with former President Robert Mugabe’s administration.

ZEC Commissioner Qhubani Moyo told SABC News in Johannesburg that it is all systems go, all legislative requirements have been met, and the space is open for contenders, voters and the media.

He says the blast at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rally in Bulawayo was an isolated incident.

Moyo says the ZEC has shown political parties where the ballot paper is being printed and, dispelled myths associated with past elections, where some believed ballot papers could change votes.

“There has been so much opening of space, the new regime has taken out fear associated with previous dispensation. This is a clear indication that the whopping 23 candidates have confidence in the way the commission is doing its business.”
