Twenty-two out of 46 Trek4Mandela climbers made it to Africa’s highest peak Uhuru this week. Many climbers succumbed to altitude sickness.
Two climbers were rushed on a stretcher from Kibo Base Camp to hospital suffering from severe mountain sickness.
One of the international climbers broke her ankle while descending from Kibo to a lower camp.
On Tuesday night, the female trekkers started their gruelling descent from Kibo Base Camp. The men followed suite at 23:00.
They trekked in sub-zero temperatures and made it to Gilman’s point at sunrise. From there climbers had to walk for another four hours. The group is expected back at 6:30 pm on Friday.
