A documentary (21 Icons SA) that takes a journey of former president Nelson Mandela, a rights activist and retired Anglican bishop, Desmond Tutu, a nurse and caregiver Lillian Cingo and other influential people as they tell their stories to reach the landmark on the first democratic elections.

Speaking on Morning Live on Wednesday the founder of 21 Icons Global and photographer Adrien Steirn says the influential people have not been previously recognised.

Steirn has created a unique collection of multimedia project that documents some of the world’s inspiring individuals, cultures and landscape.

“The documentary is to tell a story about democracy.”

He says it was a conscious decision to make interesting photos, photos that tells a story.

He says the reaction of the documentary overseas was that people never thought South Africa had such extraordinary people.

21 Icons SA will be aired on Sunday on SABC 3.
