The 2019 South African Sport Awards will take place on November 11, 2019.
Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa says the Sports department is ready for the event. ” What is important for us is that we have the public participation which is very key, where public is able to make their choice.”
Mthethwa says the value of the awards is to recognise people… “you recognise excellence, you encourage both the athletes and the sporting bodies to do more. What is important is that when people put their all in sport and go extra mile, you don’t want other people outside your national borders to recognise them, and not yourself.”
Caster Semenya was the big winner at the 2018 event. The Olympic 800m champion walked away with the Sports Star of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year and People’s Choice awards.
