For most of this year, South Africans were captivated by the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture, chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.

One testimony after another revealed shocking details of how billions of taxpayers’ money was looted from the state.

The commission was established following the recommendations of then Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela.

She called for a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate former President Jacob Zuma’s dealings with the Gupta family.

There were shocks, denials and concessions as those in the hot seat gave their side of the story.
