Twenty school children have been injured following multiple car crashes on Wiggins Road in Durban and Mysore Road in Pietermaritzburg.

Advanced Life Support Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says the children sustained various injuries ranging from moderate to critical.

“Paramedics from both the Durban and Pietermaritzburg operations responded to student transport accidents involving minibus taxis transporting children to school. In the Pietermaritzburg area of Mysore Road in Northdale, a taxi carrying approximately 10 school children somehow lost control and collided with a tree.”

Jamieson further elaborates, “The children, all under 10 years of age, had sustained various injuries ranging from moderate to critical and were stabilized on the scene by paramedics before being transported to nearby Pietermaritzburg hospitals. In the Durban area, off Wiggins Road in Cato Manor, another ten school children on their way to school were involved. Ten children were treated on scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the further care that they required.”
