South Africa has recorded 2 056 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of detected cases to 721 770 . In a statement, the Health Department reported 53 COVID-19 related deaths.
“Thirty-seven from Eastern Cape; four from Gauteng; five from the Free State; five from KwaZulu Natal; and two from Mpumalanga.”
This brings the total number of COVID-19-related deaths to 19 164.

“Of the 53 deaths reported today, 15 were reported to have occurred in the past 24-48 hours: three from the Free State; seven from Eastern Cape; four from Gauteng; and one from KwaZulu-Natal.”
The recoveries now stand at 649 935 which translates to a recovery rate of 90%.
