South Africa has reported another record number of cases in the last 24-hour cycle. 18 555 new coronavirus infections have been recorded, taking the total number to 1 278 303.
The country has also recorded 806 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Wednesday.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Regrettably, we report 806 more COVID-19 related deaths: 150 from Eastern Cape, 24 from the Free State, 211 from Gauteng, 235 from KwaZulu-Natal, 14 from Limpopo, 14 from Mpumalanga, 7 from Northern Cape and 151 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize. This brings the total number of deaths to 35 140.
Recoveries currently stand at 1 030 930.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 7 358 741.
