Reading Time: < 1 minute

About 150 SADC observers will monitor Mozambique’s elections later this month, International Relations and Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane said on Friday.

The observers, to be split into 46 teams, would be sent to all provinces of Mozambique for the October 15 elections, she said in Maputo, according to a copy of her speech.

She was announcing the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), which she heads.

“The SEOM is here therefore as an instrument that will monitor adherence to the set election principles and guidelines of SADC as well as the legal framework of Mozambique to consolidate and maintain democracy, peace, security and stability.”

Nkoana-Mashabane congratulated the Mozambican government for signing the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement on September 5.
