Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says South Africa’s electricity prices are exorbitant and need to be reduced.
He made the comments at the party’s provincial manifesto event at Motherwell in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape.

Malema told hundreds of supporters that should they win the November 4th local government elections in the metro, they would focus on reducing electricity prices to benefit disadvantaged communities.
“I don’t understand why electricity is so expensive because our baseline to produce electricity here in South Africa is coal, and coal is produced here in South Africa. Therefore, electricity must be affordable because it is produced here. Instead, we sell electricity to Eskom using the value of dollars, not the rand.”
