Western Cape police drafting action plan against GBVF: Dyantyi

SABC News

Western Cape Police Commissioner Sizakhele Dyantyi says police will draft an action plan that will be focusing on issues of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

He was speaking outside the Western Cape Provincial Legislature, where members of March and March staged a picket against the scourge of gender-based violence.

The picket comes as the country has seen a wave of gender-based violence cases, following the killing of 11 women in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg since July.

Dyantyi says they are committed to address issues raised.

“We are going to see is as a team and look at the memorandum each and every item that have been raised as a concern, thereafter we are going to draft our action plan for the purpose of responding to March and March. Not only responding by just writing a letter but also creating a plan that it’s going to address the situation that has been raised as a matter of concern.”

Meanwhile, the Joint National Inquiry into GBVF has entered its third day, with provincial Social Development Departments presenting evidence on support for victims.
