11 eThekwini municipality workers in court for public violence

Eleven eThekwini municipality workers who were arrested for public violence last month are on Friday appearing in the Durban Magistrate’s court.

They were arrested during clashes between police and workers who were protesting in the Durban city centre demanding salary increases.

The workers allege that the salaries of newly employed uMkhonto Wesizwe Military Veterans were increased from R9 000 to R20 000 a month.

They are facing charges of public violence and damage to property.

They are out on R1 000 bail each.
