1092 new coronavirus cases in SA, 45 related deaths

The number of coronavirus cases in South Africa has increased by 1 092, bringing the total to 717 851. In a statement, the Department of Health confirmed 45 COVID-related deaths.

“Ten from Eastern Cape; Gauteng, 12 from Free State; five from KwaZulu Natal; three from Mpumalanga; and 11 from Western Cape.”

This brings the total number of COVID-19-related deaths to 19 053.

“Of the 45 deaths reported today, 19 were reported to have occurred in the past 24-48 hours: two from Eastern Cape, four from Gauteng, five from the Free State, from KwaZulu- Natal, and eight in the Western Cape.”

South Africa’s recoveries now stand at 647 833 which translates to a recovery rate of 90%.

Answering questions in the National Council of Provinces earlier, President Cyril Ramaphosa dismissed reports that the country is about to go back to a higher level of lockdown. He raised concerns about citizens failing to adhere to the current lockdown regulations.
