1 380 807 COVID-19 cases in SA, 647 more deaths

The total number of coronavirus cases in South Africa has increased to 1 380 807 after 11 381 more cases were reported on Thursday.

In a statement, the Department of Health has also reported  647 more COVID-19 related deaths.

“Eastern Cape 139; Free State 17; Gauteng 93; Kwa-Zulu Natal 154; Limpopo 27; Mpumalanga 17; North West 55; Northern Cape 8 and Western Cape 137. ” This brings the total number of deaths to 39 501.

The cumulative total of tests conducted to date is 7 820 613 with 58 540 new tests conducted since the last report.

The recoveries now stand at 1 183 443, representing a recovery rate of 85. 7%.

COVID-19 claims Minister Mthembu’s life

Amongst those whose lives have been claimed by the virus is Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu. The political veteran died on Thursday after testing positive for the virus on 11 January.
