By Peroshni Govender
Israel will be marking its Remembrance Day by honouring its fallen soldiers and citizens today. The day will be marked with several events across Israel. Last night, Israeli President Shimon Peres used the occasion to state that Israel wants peace with its neighbours in the Middle East.
Remembrance Day opened last night with a minute long nationwide siren. In a moving ceremony at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the most sacred site in Judaism - Peres said Israel was ready to pay the price for peace.
He says he wants to see smiling children, be they Palestinian, Jordanian, Syrian or Egyptian. Though he warned Israel's enemies that if cornered they will fight for its survival.
