SA journalist arrested by Israeli police

April 08, 2008, 05:45

South African journalist Mark Klusener has been arrested in Jerusalem by Israeli police, the foreign affairs department said yesterday. "A South African journalist, Mark Klusener, was arrested along with seven other media workers, according to the South African embassy in Tel Aviv," said department spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa.

Klusener, a former Radio 702 Eyewitness News reporter, is currently working at RAM-FM a Palestinian-licensed radio station with a satellite station in Jerusalem.

"The South African embassy has not been advised of the reasons for the arrest, but will nonetheless remain in contact with the Israeli authorities to seek consular access as well as to find an amicable solution to this matter," Mamoepa said. - Sapa
