The Foreign Affairs department says it will help bring back the mortal remains of yet another South African killed in Iraq. The latest casualty brings to 18 the number of South Africans killed in Iraq since the start of the US-led invasion in 2003. Four other South Africans have been missing since late last year. It remains unclear where the man was employed - or how he was killed.
Four South Africans has also been missing in Iraq since December 2006. Andre Durant, Johan Enslin, Kallie Scheepers and Hardus Greeff went missing when they were flagged down at a roadblock north of the Iraqi capital, Bagdad.
Meanwhile, the remains of three kidnapped US security contractors in Iraq have been recovered and returned to the United States, the FBI said today.
The agency said Paul Christopher Johnson-Reuben of Buffalo, Minnesota, and Joshua Mark Munns of Redding, California, both of whom were employed by Crescent Security Group when kidnapped on Nov. 16, 2006, had been identified.- Additional reporting by Reuters.
