Up to 20 Afghans killed as buses crash

August 20, 2005, 14:45

Up to 20 Afghans, including women and children, were killed and about 30 injured today when two buses collided, a provincial official said.

The buses were travelling in opposite directions on a highway between the capital, Kabul, and the southern city of Kandahar when they crashed in Zabul province.

"It was a tragic accident. Between 15 and 20 people are dead," Khalid Pashtun, a senior official in Kandahar, said.

The condition of some roads and transport services has improved in Afghanistan in recent years but so has the number of traffic accidents. - Reuters
