There was a security scare at London's Heathrow airport yesterday, when a man sprinted onto a runway. The incident is not expected to affect the opening of the airport's new terminal 5 by Queen Elizabeth today.
The man was arrested after running onto the runway while carrying a backpack. Police blew up the backpack in a controlled explosion but found no bomb. They said they did not believe the incident was terrorism-related, although they were still not certain of the motive.
The world's busiest international airport has been the target of protests from environmentalists angered at both the opening of the new terminal and further plans to boost traffic with the addition of a third runway and a sixth terminal.
The Heathrow Terminal 5 Station includes a shared railway station at Heathrow - the airport is used by over 90 airlines which fly to 170 destinations worldwide.
