Kaizer Chiefs' resurgence continues. Last night they outplayed and beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 confirming their place in next season's Top Eight Competition.
A run down the left flank followed by a clinical pass from Simphiwe Tshabalala enabled Chiefs to open the score in the 43rd minute with a clinical shot from Arthur Zwane.
A second goal from Mabhuti Khenyeza in the 67th minute virtually assured Chiefs of victory as he dribbled past Celtic goalkeeper Shuaib Walters and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net.
Celtic came close to scoring on several occasions in the final 15 minutes, but some spectacular goalkeeping from Itumeleng Khune kept them at bay as Chiefs went on to win.
Like Chiefs, nevertheless, Celtic are already looking towards next season for better things and owner Jimmy Augusti promised after the game that there would be something of a major upheaval in all departments in order to dispense with "dead wood."
Cosmos won’t be in PSL next season
It's all over for Jomo Cosmos. They won't be campaigning in the Premier Soccer League next season. They were beaten 2-0 by Black Leopards yesterday.
Despite their victory, Leopards remain second from the bottom, because Thanda Royal Zulu scored an upset 3-2 win over Wits, in Durban. In other matches played yesterday, Orlando Pirates beat Free State Stars 3-1 at Bethlehem's Goble Stadium keeping alive their hopes of finishing among the Premier's League "Top Eight' going into the final game of the season. Swallows put 2 goals past Amazulu.
In another major fixture that could decide this year’s Absa Premier League - Ajax of Cape Town will need to beat Santos in the Cape derby this afternoon. Ajax is currently four points behind SuperSuper United who lead the Premier League log. – Additional reporting by Sapa
