Fifa, SABC, Safa launch schools soccer initiative

May 11, 2008, 08:15

An initiative by the Federation of International Football Association (Fifa) will see football reaching most schools in South Africa. A programme was launched yesterday by the SABC, the South African Football Association and FIFA's Local Organising Committee at the Moletsane Sports Ground in Soweto.

The project will culminate in a South African Schools Football World Cup - unique in that each school will adopt the identity of any football playing country in the world. Also in the partnership is the department of Sport and Recreation.

The organisers are aiming to reach everywhere around the country and want to involve every learner - both boys and girls.
