Santana is hired to guide the country to 2010

New Bafana Bafana Head Coach Joel Natalino Santana is expected in South Africa on Monday. He has been hired to guide the country to 2010. His final game with Flamengo before his move to South Africa started as a party and finished as one of the biggest upsets at the Maracana since the final game of the 1950 World Cup.
Santana was meant to leave Flamengo after the Carioca championship final against Botafogo on Sunday. But the club went on to win 4-2 away against Mexico's America in the Libertadores Cup, and he was persuaded to stay for the return leg. Before the game, Flamengo's players formed a line of honour for Santana, who was also presented with a plaque and a club shirt with the number one thousand emblazoned on the back.
However, Flamengo lost 3-0. Outside the stadium, the situation turned nasty as angry Flamengo fans stoned the team bus and insulted directors.
