New Bafana Bafana coach Joel Natalino Santana deserves a chance to show what he is capable of. These are the views of some former Bafana Bafana players as well as the 2010 Local Organising Committee (LOC).
2010 LOC CEO Danny Jordaan is hopeful Santana will deliver results.
"Very often it’s the support structures that will help the coach settle down and he has his structures in place that Carlos (Parreira) had to lean on … one can only wait and see, and wish him the best for a huge challenge that he will undoubtedly face,” said Jordaan.
Many are bemoaning Santana's lack of international experience, but he has received support from former Bafana Bafana stalwarts. Former striker Phil Masinga said most of the coaches who coached national teams had to start somewhere, and so far Santana has done well and deserves a chance.
"Let’s just support him and hope he does everything we want him to do … we want South Africa to go in the right direction," said former Bafana Bafana defender Mark Fish.
Former Bafana midfielder Dr Khumalo said Santana is rated highly by some coaches, including former SA coach Carlos Alberto Perreira. “I firmly believe he is the right person for us, we must just wait and see what he is going to deliver," he said.
Last night, Flamengo won a match and dedicated the victory to Santana who has three matches left before he heads to South Africa.
