Deputy-President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka says good progress is being made on the construction of the new 2010 stadium in Polokwane in Limpopo. The Deputy President is touring the 2010 host cities to check on the progress made and challenges faced by the authorities.
The Polokwane stadium will cost over R1 billion. The new Peter Mokaba Sports Complex is being constructed adjacent to the existing one. The overrun is estimated at about R300 million so far.
“The construction of the stadium is making good progress. We are continuing to look at ways of managing the costs down together with the city and the Province and also we will do our best to see how we can make sure that some of the people that were involved in building the stadium are trained.”
