A study has shown that the general population is still positive about SA hosting the 2010 World Cup

South Africans are still generally positive about 2010. This is according to a study conducted by the Human Sciences Research Council. However, the finding has also warned against negative things that could change that perception.
Since South Africa was awarded the right to host the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, locals have had mixed feelings about the country hosting this major event. But for the third consecutive year, they remain generally positive about the country's readiness.
Of the 3 500 people that took part in the survey, 74% of them feel load shedding, rising interest rates, fuel hikes and stadium strike action are a worry but should not impact on the event. But recent reports about the alleged internal strife in the 2010 Local Organising Committee could cause serious damage.
Those from Gauteng and other provinces are of the view that hosting the tournament will lead to more crime and congestion on the roads. The Western Cape believes increased tourism will be the main benefit for the country.
