Only 20 supporters welcomed back the national soccer team at Johannesburg's O R Tambo international airport.
The team was due to arrive this morning but their arrival was delayed again. No reasons have been given for the delay. Bafana ended last in their group in the African Cup of Nations tournament in Ghana. Unlike world cup champions, the Springboks, Bafana Bafana received a low-key welcome.
Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira maintains that many positives have emerged in spite of South Africa's opening round elimination from the African Cup of Nations. He was speaking after the team arrived back in the country after their embarrassing first round exit from the tournament in Ghana. The team touched down at Johannesburg's O R. Tambo international airport nine hours later than scheduled. Parreira says South Africa held their own in all three games against Angola, Tunisia and Senegal - and basically slipped up through lapses in concentration resulting in the conceding of costly goals.
