The PSL have given SAFPU a grant of R500 000 to enable them to kick start their activities

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) executive committee has finally decided to empower the important stakeholders in the business - the players. The PSL will start working closely with the South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) to address issues such as the players' provident fund, medical aid, and insurance.
All these issues were discussed at today's special Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Johannesburg today. Last week's meeting was adjourned because members failed to form quorum. However in today's meeting all PSL and first division clubs attended the AGM and amendments were made to the constitution.
"The issue that has been agreed upon is how we take forward the players union. Today we agreed to give the players union a grant of R500 000 to enable them to kick start their activities," said PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza. The main priority for the PSL and the Players Union is to organise medical aid for players.
Minimum wages for players will also be looked into at a later stage. Soccer players will also be taught how to handle interviews.
