Eskom in KwaZulu-Natal has committed itself to ensuring that there are no power outages during next weekend's FIFA Soccer World Cup preliminary draw in Durban.
Eskom's regional customer services manager, Pool Mahadeo, has assured members of the provincial legislature in Pietermaritzburg that he is working closely with the Ethekwini electricity department to ensure that there would be no power failures in the city.
Members of the legislature had expressed concern that the constant power failures in the city could be an embarrassment during the event which is to be attended by many international visitors.
FIFA General Secretary, Jerome Valcke, says next week's 2010 FIFA Preliminary Draw in Durban will give viewers all around the world an excellent taste of what lies in store for them in 2010.
According to 2010 Project website, 170 countries have booked the TV feed for the event, which is a new FIFA World Cup record and yet more proof of the huge interest in South Africa 2010.
All indications are that Durban is on target with its preparations for the event, despite a labour dispute which has seen construction work at the Moses Mabhida stadium grinding to a halt.
