Following a short break after their win in Adelaide, the Springboks Sevens team is back in camp in preparation for the final two events on the International Rugby Board's Sevens Circuit, the London and the Edinburgh tournaments next month. But as has been the case on almost every occasion, Paul Treu has had to rebuild the squad with availability of players and injuries wreaking havoc.
The squad that assembled in Stellenbosch this week had a different look to the one that returned from Adelaide. Wilton Petersen and Robert Ebersohn have been called up to the South African under 20 squad and will not be available for London and Edinburgh, while Mzwandile Stick won't be playing for four months following surgery. More bad news came when Renfred Deyzel was ruled out and it looks like Jonathan Mokoena will also battle to regain fitness.
Treu revealed that he had been in touch with former Sevens star Stefan Basson, who is playing in Italy. While Basson was keen to rejoin the team, his club would not release him. Meanwhile, Denwell Demas and Kabamba Floors have committed themselves to the Sevens squad and next year's Sevens World Cup.
