Springbok vice captain Victor Matfield will definitely be available to play for the Springboks this year. Matfield, who has been playing for French club Toulon, has confirmed his availability to Springbok coach Peter de Villiers during a meeting this weekend.
The Bok coach had a busy schedule this weekend. He met Matfield, who flew into George, to clear up speculation that he was not prepared to play under de Villiers.
On Saturday de Villiers attended the Varsity tournament in George. This morning he was at the annual Easter rugby festival for black clubs in Langa, Cape Town and this afternoon he watched the finals of a development tournament in Strand outside Somerset West. He expressed concern that not enough is being done to nurture black talent.
Sixteen top black African teams from around the country took part in the tournament.
Apart from de Villiers, Springbok selector Peter Jooste also scouted for talent, while SARU president Oregan Hoskins attended the tournament on the first day.
