The 2008 Tour d'Afrique - the world's longest bicycle race and expedition - has ended at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront. It started in Egypt's Cairo in January and went through ten African countries. After covering 12 000kms over four months, Holland's Jos Kaal clinched this year's men's title while Canada's Debra Corbal took the women's top honours.
Billed as the world's toughest and most challenging endurance sports, this year's race saw a record number of entrants, with 55 full tour and 40 sectional riders from all over the world. Travelling through countries such as Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Malawi.
While the post electoral violence seen in Kenya forced the tour to divert - it provided a much needed two week break for riders.
The next stop for the organisers of the world's longest bicycle race - a trip across the far East.
