Cyclists taking part in the Tour de Afrique cycling race have arrived at the Cape West Coast. The cyclists started the race in Cairo four months ago. During the 12 000km trip, the cyclists visited six African countries.
Tour leader Duncan Jerard says 70 foreign participants from all over the world and as far afield as Switzerland and New Zealand are taking part in the race. Only three South Africans participated.
Jerard says the official prize giving ceremony will take place in Cape Town later today.
The race started out at the great pyramids of Egypt on the morning of January 12. Cycling up to 205kms a day for 120 days, cyclists battled deep sand in the Sudan, monstrous climbs in Ethiopia, pouring rains in Tanzania and high mileage in Zambia.
