South African netball captain Bronwyn Bock-Jonathan is not totally lost to the country although her future will depend on the opportunities that come about.
Bock-Jonathan, who was a member of the South African team since 1998 and captained the team at last year's World Cup, shocked the local netball fraternity by announcing that she has taken up a coaching job in Australia.
She is the latest on a long list of South African netball stars who have decided to further their careers elsewhere. The list includes Irene van Dyk, Leane du Plooy, Lisl Wuim, and Dominique Harveson. Van Dyk was recently named New Zealand's sports personality of the year ahead of rugby heroes Daniel Carter and Richie McCaw.
Bock-Jonathan will be coaching the ACT netball academy and the national league team. Her contract is for four years, but she has not ruled out coaching in South Africa completely.
It's not only netball that will suffer. Bock-Jonathan's husband, Marvin, is a member of the South African baseball team.
