We should be welcoming professionals and entrepreneurs from the rest of Africa. They will help develop this country and spur growth. Immigrants helped America’s growth, as they tend to want to work harder and create wealth. Let us learn from the greatest economy in the world. Encourage immigrants but screen out criminals South Africa 4 South Africans only! Throw foreigners out!

Where does this leave born South Africans who are professionals and have a degree? As there are not enough job opportunities for the current population.

CAN IDENTIFY WITH U BUT HOPE U WILL SETTLE/ADAPT!

thank you for a well timed and well produced documentary on an important topic.

There was one element missing in your report that, I can only hope, was an omission due to time, or some other, constraints. Due to the difficulties people face in immigrating to this country, the field of immigration specialists has flourished, and are now (a very expensive) dime a dozen, so to speak. Why then, were none interviewed as part of the programme? It would have provided you with some interesting and useful information that could have shed some light on your topic. This lapse is particularly poignant as the new Regulations to the Immigration Act came into play on the 1st of July of this year. A brief conversation with either an immigration lawyer or practitioner would have deepened the analysis that, without which, was severely lacking in quality. Though I cannot speak on their behalf, immigration practitioners who I have spoken to (and that has been quite a few, in fact) have not much good to say about the new Act, and are even more damning with regard to the Regulations. From my own reading of the Regulations, and some knowledge of the field, I can, for instance, tell you that it is now HARDER for experienced and qualified individuals to attain work permits in this country. As of July 1st, all foreign degrees and qualifications must now be certified by the South African Qualifications Authority prior to any application being submitted to the Dept. of Home Affairs. As they will not allow the certification process and the permit application to run concurrently, the wait for an outcome has been extended even further. If, for instance, you have three degrees from foreign universities, they must first be certified by the SAQA and only then can you apply for a work permit. The certification process can cost over R700, which is the “rush job” and takes no less then a month. If you can’t pay for the rush job, you can wait anywhere from four to six months! Oh, and then you still need to apply for the permit, which can add on several months more.

Being 33 years old and South African born, been to several countries around Africa up to central Africa, I would like to say I see no harm for other people coming to our country for work so far as we have the freedom to move to other countries. It is always wise to learn the other nations' ways, to succeed. That what this world is all about if you don’t have resources you borrow or you buy or you go and learn. For Africa to move forward people must share and learn to accept each other, not forgetting the criminals because there’s always the elements of crime that sees opportunity when good things are happening. So obviously regulatory measures must be in place for reducing or regulating if not complete stop the illegal elements.
