Awareness levels of 16 Days of Activism rising

Research reveals that more South Africans are aware of the 16 Days of Activism campaign

November 19, 2007, 12:00

Government studies have revealed that the level of awareness of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign has grown from 16% in 2003 to 33% in 2006. This year's campaign is focused on generating increased awareness of the negative impact of violence on women and children at grass-roots level.

The campaign kicks off this Sunday, with the Million Men's March. The march is to encourage behavioral change among men. However the Government says the level of women and child abuse in the country remains unacceptably high.

The torch of peace will burn until December 10.
