Lucas Radebe and Ernst van Dyk, both South African sports legends, have been named as Laureus ambassadors. The announcement coincides with the launch of two new projects by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in South Africa.
The foundation is in the country for a four-day academy workshop where the focus will be on Africa. It will tackle a range of social issues around the world and will use sport as the tool for social change.
A number of members, all influential sportsmen and women such as Martina Navratilova, Monica Seles and cricket great Kapil Dev have already arrived for the event, and today two new South African ambassadors were welcomed into the fold.
Radebe says he wants to help those young people to achieve their potential and know that sport can be a unique tool for positive social change. The foundation also launched two new projects in South Africa, the Buffalo City Soccer School in East London and Fight With Insight - a boxing project for young offenders. It also had its R12.5 million sponsorship over five years renewed.
