The escalating food and fuel prices continue to affect South Africans negatively. This was echoed by Grain South Africa during the last day of the annual NAMPO harvest day show, which took place near Bothaville in the Northern Free State during the past four days. This year the agricultural show attracted about 60 000 people and more than 620 exhibitors from across the world took part.
This is one of the largest agricultural shows in the world. The event is organised annually by Grain South Africa. It is aimed at enhancing new machinery and technological means to farmers. However, as the country is going through the hurdles of changes in food and fuel prices, the farming industry feels the pinch.
According to Grain South Africa chairperson, Neels Farreira, food producers and farmers are not responsible for price hikes.
The NAMPO harvest day was initiated in the late 1960s. It has since grown from strength to strength. Farming machinery manufacturers and distributors, and agricultural food producers exhibit and demonstrate at the show.
