KwaZulu-Natal Agriculture and Environmental Affairs MEC Mtholephi Mthimkhulu says the distribution of resources to emerging farmers is a challenge that needs to be addressed by all spheres of government.
He was speaking at the handing over of more than 3 000 hectares of land to 34 black farmers at Bergville in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands. Mthimkhulu says the shortage of skills in emerging farmers has a negative impact on food security worldwide.
He added that government had created programmes to ensure that black farmers could produce food for the nation. Felokwakhe Communal Property Association chairperson Zondile Hlatshwayo - who is also one of the land beneficiaries - says it is important for the beneficiaries to ensure that food production is increased.
