Land claims commissioner in court for fraud

The Limpopo land claims commissioner, Masile Mokono, has appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on charges of perjury and fraud. A four-year-long investigation by the Scorpions led to his arrest in December.

Mokono has allegedly masterminded subverting R2.5 million through bogus land claimants in the village of Dwarsloop in Bushbuckridge. Four of his colleagues have also been arrested and all of were released on bail earlier.

The case has been postponed to August 5 and 6.
