Residents of the Joe Slovo informal settlement in Langa on the Cape Flats, say they will appeal against an eviction order granted by the Cape High Court.
The order was handed down by Judge President John Hlophe, following an urgent application by state-owned developer Thubelisha Homes, Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, and Western Cape Housing minister Richard Dyantyi.
The order instructed 4 000 informal dwellers to make way for Phase Two of the N2 Gateway Housing Project. Their relocation was set to begin as early as next Monday. However, with the residents appealing the order, it is unclear when the relocation will begin.
