The baby formula is currently not suitable for consumption
|
March 12, 2008, 05:45
Food Company Nestlé says internal investigations are underway to determine what could have gone wrong in the production of baby formula Lactogen 1. Nestlé has recalled all 400g tins of Lactogen 1 after tests showed higher than declared levels of the trace elements iron, zinc and copper. It is therefore not suitable for consumption.
Communications Director at Nestlé, Theo Mxakwe, says they are consulting the factory which manufactures the formula for the company. Nestlé says if a baby has consumed its recalled infant formula, Lactogen 1, a doctor may have to be consulted.
However Mxakwe has reassured consumers that the recalled product is not deadly. "We are running this in a very automated factory and we have identified what the issues are. Currently our quality assurance department is engaging with various departments to ensure that this is actually resolved as soon as possibele...we would like to just assure our consumers that Nestlés product will definitely be manufactured within the quality standards that nestle is well known for."
Nestlé has also advised all retailers to remove the formula, which was manufactured on November 6, 2007, from their shelves immediately.
