Hospitals will not be protected from power cuts in the new load-shedding plan, contrary to an assurance given to the Johannesburg Hospital by City Power. The hospital's chief executive Saggie Pillay says he is surprised by the information that they will not be excluded from the load-shedding.
City Power's general manager of supply availability, Louis Pieterse, says in the new plan, which was implemented yesterday in the Johannesburg north west area, where the hospital is situated, power cuts should be expected between 6pm and 10pm.
He says the choice of a system in which hospitals are not excluded, has been a difficult decision.
