The Western Cape department of agriculture says the outbreak of African Horse Sickness in the Worcester and Robertson areas has been contained. The disease has been diagnosed on six farms in the Breede River Valley. Ten horses have died in the past six weeks.
Cobus Dowry, the provincial minister of agriculture, says affected farms remain under quarantine, and strict movement control measures are in place.
Meanwhile, the ban on the export of horses from South Africa to the European countries remains in force.
