Gauteng government spokesperson Thabo Masebe says about 1200 foreign nationals at the Glenanda temporary camp, south of Johannesburg, are yet to be registered. He was briefing journalists at the camp about government's process to register foreigners on to the temporary Identity Cards system since the outbreak of violence at the camp earlier this week.
Following clashes between security officials and the residents at the camp, most of the foreign nationals still refuse to be registered onto the six month temporary ID card system.
Talking to journalists, Masebe says not even half of the population at the camp has been registered for the cards which are meant to tighten security. However Masebe says despite the disruptions registration will continue until Monday.
