Condolences are pouring in for former Intelligence Minister and struggle veteran, Joe Nhlanhla. He passed away in Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg yesterday.
Amongst those who came to offer their condolences is First Lady Zanele Mbeki. In a statement the South African Communist Party (SACP) says Nhlanhla dedicated his entire life to the struggle against apartheid and was a dedicated cadre and leader of the national liberation movement.
The Young Communist League (YCL) says the passing of Nhlanhla should serve as a call for those in power to transform the judiciary, particularly the National Intelligence Agency.
Nhlanhla was again praised for the significant role he played in the first democratic government as the Deputy Minister of Intelligence and later as a Minister. Nhlanhla left politics because of ill-health in 2001. He suffered a stroke and has been battling poor health ever since.
