The United Democratic Movement leader, Bantu Holomisa, has called for an independent inquiry into what he terms the conflict between the SABC board and Group CEO Dali Mpofu. This follows the latest court ruling against the board's appeal for the suspension of Mpofu.
Earlier some members of the SABC Group Executive Committee called on the board to step down. Seven of the 15 executive members have signed a memorandum in which they have expressed a vote of no confidence in the board over its handling of Mpofu's case.
“The latest court decision has not solved anything but it's clear that there is a relationship breakdown between Mpofu and the board,” says Holomisa. He says it is only an independent inquiry that can restore the credibility of the SABC.
He says both the Presidency and the Communications Ministry have to intervene as soon as possible, as it isn't too late.
