Police warn of Thokoza Township blockade

May 17, 2008, 10:00

Ekurhuleni Metro Police have urged motorists to avoid Thokoza township's main road, Khumalo Street, because of the unrest in the area.

Thokoza residents have blockaded the street with stones and trees. Kobeli Mokheseng, Metro Police spokesperson, says the reason for the unrest is not clear.

Mokheseng says: “If you will be using Khumalo Street between Skhosana and Sweet Khoza exercise the necessary caution or alternatively use another route, as there is road blockage as there are many people behind this. We do not know what is causing this at this stage.”

Mokheseng also says there is a huge police presence with the SAPS and Metro police trying to calm the situation.
