A 70-year old Bed and Breakfast owner from Soweto has won the AA Accommodation Lifetime Achievement Award. It was handed over at a ceremony in Durban last night.
Lolo Mabitsela, affectionately known as "Mama Lolo", established her guest house in 2000, the first bed and breakfast to open in Diepkloof. Due to ill health Mama Lolo wasn't able to make the trip down to the coast, where the annual Tourism Indaba is underway.
Her daughter, Paulina Tema, who accepted the award on her behalf, thanked AA staffers involved in the award. “It's a surprise, they didn't tell us.We thought it was for accommodation. We really appreciate it,” she said.
