The Ethekwini municipality is to cut the water supply to a large number of residents north of Durban next week due to repairs to leaking main pipes in the city.
Head of the department of Water and Sanitation, Neil Macleod says areas that will be affected are Durban North, KwaMashu, Ntuzuma, Mhlanga Rocks and Phoenix.
Macleod says the main feeder pipe has serious leaks and the process of repairing it will take four days.
He urged residents to use water sparingly during this period. “On Sunday evening we are going to start switching the water off and from Monday next week we'll be repairing that water main. The supply to the north will be cut considerably…
“We (are) asking people to use water carefully, if they can avoid washing their cars or watering gardens, because this will give more of a storage buffer to last for two days.”
